Facilities:

The Facility Office is located east of the Great Hall at the southeast corner of the building on the main floor. From within the building go through the Servery doors on the east side of the Great Hall, turning right (south) once you are in the Servery. From the exterior, enter through the door adjacent to the Loading Dock off of the parking lot facing Queens Park. Hart House Policy on Photography

As Hart House is a beautiful building, it is a popular location. This policy document is designed to protect the privacy of our members, to protect the security of certain areas in the building, to minimize conflicts and to prevent undue exploitation of the building for commercial gain. Anyone wishing to take non-commercial photographs within Hart House must sign a Photography Waiver Contract, which is available at the The Hub. Photography of a casual, personal, nature (e.g.. tourist snapshots) is permitted throughout the public areas of Hart House, unless excluded below. We ask that such photos do not include any people, unless the individuals have given their expressed consent.

Filming Policy
Commercial photography, videos or movies are not permitted anywhere in or near the House without advance written permission from the Facility Department. This must be secured at least 48 hours in advance of the proposed shoot. Rooms used as a backdrop for a commercial photo shoot or for television will be subject to a rental rate that is twice the normal room rate. Rooms used for movie shoots are subject to the fee schedule established by the Film Liaison Service. Filming for video or movies must be scheduled in advance with the Reservations Department. Invasive or dangerous set-ups will not be permitted. Special insurance may be required. A Photography Waiver Contract is required.

Exclusions:

  • Secure Areas: No photography is permitted in areas that have security technology, including the Barnicke Gallery and the Range, however artists may take pictures of their installed work in the Gallery with the permission of the exhibit curator. No photography is permitted in staff areas.
  • Athletics: No photography is permitted in the Athletic areas without the written permission of the Recreational Athletics Committee, and either the Director or Assistant Director of Athletics. Cameras in cell phones must not be used in Athletics areas.
  • Theatre: No photography is permitted in the Theatre, except with the written permission of the Theatre Manager. Permission will only normally be granted to persons involved in the mounting of shows, before the show opens or to members of the media.
  • Weddings: No wedding photographs are permitted at Hart House, unless the ceremony or reception is held in the House. There are no exceptions to this rule. Photography occurring at a time other than during the event must be booked in advance with Reservations.
  • Media: Any person from the media, including University media, who wants to use Hart House as a location for a photograph for a story, must secure permission from the Communications Department in advance.
